CECS 6020, Week 4
This week we heard presentations regarding Discovery Learning from Annie, Authentic Learning from Josh, and the Kemp Model from Bob. Of the instructional design methodologies presented, Discovery Learning and Authentic Learning made sense, however Josh's presentation on authentic learning was clearer. Bob's presentation on the Kemp Model made sense, however the model seems rather prescriptive. I would use both Authentic Learning and Discovery Learning because they both are proven through the presented research as effective and they can work together. If I were designing instruction that was better suited to straight forward content, I might use the Kemp Model. I have experienced that creating a sense of interest, when initiating discovery learning, can be difficult. It is the responsibility of the instructor to illustrate the 'need' for discovery.
