CECS 6100 - Week 1

Why have we moved so many courses online?
  • Online courses allow students to attend classes on non traditional schedules. This can be most helpful for working professionals or parents with small children. Not restricted by set class times, students can attend classes virtually, review related media materials at anytime and from anywhere. Given the online location of these courses, students from anywhere can participate. This allows schools to market outside of the geographic region, given that there is no required travel to campus.
As students, do you feel like online courses are as good as face-to-face courses?
  • There are too many variables regarding instruction to fairly compare online courses to traditional face-to-face course. Variables such as the instructor, instructional design, delivery platform, and even the style of course. T
What are the major differences between online and FTF courses for you as a student?
  • As a working professional, and parent of small children, I do not have time to attend face to face classes. I appreciate the ability to attend classes virtually, from my home.
Whether you have taught one or not, what do you think the differences are for the instructor?
  •  The differences between online and regular instruction might be more drastic to the instructor, than the student.
How do we know if the formats require different skills or result in different learning outcomes
  • Do we?
